None Left Behind

The perfect companion for you may be one that, at first glance, you might be tempted to overlook. Our unique None Left Behind program encourages you to take a closer look – you may be surprised by what you find!

Some people may have concerns about adopting a special-needs pet – one with a chronic medical condition requiring ongoing veterinary attention, one challenged by a behavioral, psychological or functional issue requiring special care, or a “young at heart” senior pet.

None Left Behind benefits:

  • Waived adoption fee
  • No concerns over the cost of veterinary care for special needs
  • Provisions for necessary medications, special diets, ongoing treatments or other special care requirements*
  • Free behavioral consultations with the League’s animal trainer

*This program does NOT include future veterinary treatment for conditions unrelated to the animal’s inclusion in None Left Behind, nor does it cover routine veterinary care such as exams, shots, dental cleanings or extractions, nail trimmings, grooming, standard flea/tick and heartworm preventatives, non-prescription foods, crates or cages, training pads or similar supplies, leashes, collars and the like. These are considered normal requirements of responsible pet parenting.

Meet Vaughn!

Handsome Vaughn
Vaughn is the very HANDSOMEST rottweiler in all the land - but being so very, very good-looking hasn't made Vaughn immune to the troubles life has tossed his way. This elder statesman was found by a League volunteer in August, 2020 - a lumbering and gentle beast who must have been a beloved family member at some point, but somehow he had found himself wandering alone in a park. Vaughn quickly became a favorite at the shelter - an affectionate lap-dog who would rather sit with (ahem - on) you under a tree than just about anything else.
Though we don't know exactly how old Vaughn is, he has some health issues that suggest he's in the senior range - 5-7 years old or so. And, as with so many older big dogs, Vaughn suffers from arthritis and hip dysplasia. Vaughn is still relatively active, enjoying short walks with his favorite people; but he's also enjoying the benefits of modern medicine, and takes pain and joint medication to keep him feeling as spry as an old furry beast can. Vaughn's age and his age-related medical issues means he hasn't gotten much attention from adopters - but this big old guy deserves to find his new family. Vaughn isn't good with cats; and, because of his aches and pains, little kids are too much for him. But Vaughn does do well with other dogs (low-key dogs are better!), and would flourish in a laid-back, quiet home.
Vaughn is part of the League's None Left Behind program, so his adoption fee, and the medication he takes for his arthritis and hip dysplasia are covered by the League for his lifetime.
Grey Muzzle

The Grey Muzzle Organization

The Grey Muzzle Organization improves the lives of at-risk senior dogs by providing funding and resources to animal shelters, rescue organizations, and other nonprofit groups nationwide.

The League is grateful to have been a recipient of a grant through The Grey Muzzle Organization which will allow us to cover care costs for senior dogs that make their way to our shelter.
